Concept discussion

'intoxicated', 'drunk' and 'inebriated' are not true synonyms of the concept defined as "Stupefied or excited by a chemical substance (especially alcohol)". A person overcome by gas, or someone who relies excesively on what (s)he reads in the press, may be intoxicated - but would not be 'drunk'.
As the definition is OK for intoxicated, I suggest 'drunk' and 'inebriated' should be split off into separate concepts.

Absolutely agree. Inebriated is not a synonim!

I believe that you can use all 3 of those words interchangeably to mean "Stupefied or excited by a chemical substance (especially alcohol)"

If you are talking about a separate concept with a definition of "someone who relies excesively on what (s)he reads in the press", than no, drunk would not be a synonym.

I venture to suggest that you cannot get 'drunk' or 'inebriated' on any chemical substance that is not a liquid (nor, indeed, on all liquids ...).
'Drunk' is a specific (i.e. liquid-dependent) form of 'intoxicated', and therefore requires a separate concept and definition (which already exist in WW, btw...).

I entirely agree with you. In German being drunk is "berauscht, besoffen", whereas having smoked Marihuana is "bekifft" having taken drugs, e.g. heroin, it would be "unter Drogen stehen".

1) Caro Antonio Barros, não parece correta a atribuição do trecho apresentado a Chico Buarque de Hollanda. Quoted text does not really correspond to the words of Chico Buarque!
There's also too much confusion about the terms here: intoxicated, drunk, inebriated... It should be corrected!
